On June 11, 2020, His Excellency, President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa of the Republic of South Africa, and Chairperson of the African Union (AU) convened a video-teleconference Meeting of the Bureau of the Assembly of African Union (AU) Heads of State and Government with the Chairpersons of the AU Regional Economic Communities (RECs).

The meeting covered reports of the economic relief measures for member states and the launch of the Africa Medical Supplies Procurement Platform.

The digital procurement system, funded by Strive Masiyiwa, a Zimbabwean billionaire, will streamline the purchasing, coordination and distribution of PPEs, test kits, ventilators, medical equipment and other supplies to member states of the African Union.

African medical suppliers are encouraged to join the platform as vendors and expand their customer base throughout Africa.
